Small Habits to Stay Steady

Here’s the mindset I’m taking into 2026: no big resolutions, no pressure — just simple daily habits to feel steadier and stronger, so it’s easier to improve balance and mobility in everyday life.

Those of you who’ve been with me a while know I’m not exactly the biggest fan of New Year’s resolutions.

But I have been thinking about how I want 2026 to feel.

For me it’s not about doing more — it’s about doing a few things more reliably.

One word: consistency.

Falls prevention in Chichester starts with consistency

Not big overhauls. Not “new year, new me”. Just small things done often enough that they start to feel normal.

Most of us already know what helps: drink more water, move a bit more, keep it simple. The hard part isn’t knowing what to do — it’s doing it regularly.

Even something as basic as a pint of water in the morning makes a difference… but only when I do it most days, not once in a blue moon.

And that’s how I think about exercise too.

Simple daily habits to feel steadier and stronger

You don’t need extreme workouts or perfect weeks. You need habits that fit your actual life.

Here are a few no-fuss habits that support falls prevention and help you improve balance and mobility:

Habit 1: Do a “mini walk” most days

A 5–15 minute walk counts. It keeps joints moving, wakes up your legs, and helps with confidence outdoors.

Habit 2: Add a tiny bit of leg strength

Strong legs make everyday life easier: stairs, getting out of a chair, carrying shopping. Small, steady practice wins.

Habit 3: Practise a safe balance moment

Think: standing tall at the kitchen counter, gentle weight shifts, marching on the spot holding a chair. Little and often is the point.

Habit 4: Hydration first, then everything feels easier

When you’re dehydrated, you can feel tired, headachy, and a bit “wobbly”. Boring, but powerful.

Progress comes from repetition, not pressure

That’s what I’m here for:

  • simple movement
  • small routines
  • gentle encouragement
  • progress built through repetition, not pressure

If you want to feel stronger, steadier, or a bit more like yourself this year — start small.

Pick one habit you can do most days… and let it become your “normal”.

Consistency Corner – January

One habit is enough

Start small. A short walk, a few strength exercises, or a glass of water in the morning.

Consistency isn’t about a perfect start — it’s about choosing something you can repeat.

My habit for January

For January, I’m going with 10 minutes of yoga every morning. To help me stick with it, I’ve roped my sister into doing it with me too. Having someone else in it with you makes a big difference — it’s harder to wriggle out of it when you know they’re showing up as well.

What’s yours?

Let me know what your one small habit is going to be.
